Class Description:
In my classroom, we acknowledge and embrace each other's differences. It is a fair environment meaning everyone gets what they need. Flexible seating is available for all students. We focus on building relationships through collaboration via group projects, discussions, and table groups. We work on regulating our emotions by going to the calm corner when needed and doing class activities focused on emotional regulation. We will dive into math, English, reading, social studies, and science.
Homework Policy:
In my class, there are no homework assignments. Students are given time each day in class to complete assignments related to what we are learning. If students are unable to complete the assignments in the time given, the assignments will need to be finished at home. I have made this decision from the research that homework taking hours of time each night has taken away from time alone and with family. Students who have little to no homework also more stable emotionally and have less stress. There have also been some findings that less homework time increases likelihood to do independent study at home.
If you would like to read more about why I have made my decision, you can download the article attached below.
Redo Policy:
It is important to me that all my students not only get good grades, but also have a good understanding of the content covered in our class. This means that students are given an opportunity to redo assignments, quizzes, and exams. If a student does work I think is not their best, I will give them a speeding ticket which is a chance to redo their assignment.
Class Communication
In my class, I start the year off my having each student bring home the student information paper to get filled out so I can have essential information for their safety. I will also be sending home this Meet the Teacher form below. It gives you all a place to learn more about me, and I provide my contact information. I will be available through email, but I only reply to my emails Mon-Fri to maintain self-care and family time on the weekends. I send out a monthly newsletter that contacts important information, reminders, general class news, and our learning goals for the month. I will do my best to make sure communication is open and clear throughout the year. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to have a conversation.
Feel free to reach out.
