Routines and Procedures

Assignment Bin:

When students finish an assignment, they will clip a clothes pin that has their number on to their paper and then place it in the stack.

We will learn this by going over this during the first few days of school by practicing it with our assignments until it becomes a habit. It will also be included in the directions on all of the assignments.

Absent work bin:

Students will go to the assignment folder of the day they missed. There will be a bin that holds a file folder for each day of the month, so students can pick out the assignments they need from the days they missed.

Students will learn this during the first week of school and be reminded throughout the year when necessary. Students will learn where to get their absent assignments by playing a game on the first day of class. Students will be split into groups. Each student will get a card with the date they were absent. Students then need to find the correct assignment for the day they missed. If the students get the correct assignment, they should be able to put all the sheets of paper in the group to create a picture.

Bathroom pass:

Students will put a cone on their desk if they are going to the bathroom, nurse's office, or the main office.

On the first day of class, students will practice putting the right cone on their desk depending on where they are going in a relay race where they have to walk and put the correct cone on their desk depending on which piece of paper they pulled out of the hat.

Call and responses:

In our class, we will be using call and responses to bring the class's attention together.

We will practice these constantly throughout the year. We'll start by playing a game where we go over several call and responses. Then we will pass around a bean bag while standing in a circle and whoever gets the bean bag leads the call and response.

Quiet/single file line in the hallway:

Students will stand in a single file line in the hallway and restrain from talking.

Students will learn this through a game we will play during the first few days of school and without the year. We play snake where the students have to follow me while walking in a straight line and if the hall is empty, we will snake around the hall as long as we are quiet and in a straight line.
